By Zoila Palma: Construction is officially underway on a new cattle export corral in Chan Chen Village, Corozal District, as the Government of Belize moves to strengthen infrastructure supporting the country’s livestock sector.
The project is being implemented through the Climate Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture Project (CRESAP), by the Belize Social Investment Fund (BSIF) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries (MAFSNGI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET).
The new facility is expected to strengthen Belize’s livestock value chain by improving cattle handling and supporting greater export readiness. The investment is also intended to create increased opportunities for livestock producers by providing infrastructure to facilitate the movement and preparation of cattle for export markets.
The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with the Belize Livestock Producers’ Association (BLPA) and is being described as an important step toward building a more resilient, competitive and sustainable livestock sector.
