Darboe hails historic alliance signing, calls for unity ahead of 2026 elections

Speaking at the ceremony, Darboe expressed gratitude to alliance partners, noting that the agreement represents “an honorable and sincere engagement process” and a “genuine partnership built on trust, confidence, and shared values.” He stressed that while political groupings may differ, they are united by a common goal: a government focused on the priorities of the Gambian people.     Darboe acknowledged skepticism about opposition unity but insisted that alliances pursued with “sincerity, honesty and transparency” can endure and succeed. He extended an open hand to other opposition parties not present, urging them to join in a collective effort to “save our country” and commit to a five-year reform agenda.     “The candidate’s name is Ousainu Darboe and the face on the ballot box will be Ousainu Darboe, but each and every one of you, my trusted allies, is the candidate and the ballot box will bear your name and carry your face,” he declared, underscoring the coalition’s shared ownership of the campaign.     Darboe also called on UDP supporters to embrace alliance partners warmly, nurture team spirit, and respect diversity within the coalition. He urged grassroots engagement, encouraging members to meet voters “in their homes, bantabas, farms, and markets.”     In closing, he appealed to the Gambian diaspora to “keep your feet on the pedal” and continue supporting efforts to “rescue our country.”
