By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceño has joined Belizeans across the country on YeriSoh, a newly launched social media platform developed by Belizean programmer David Godinez.
The platform was created as a space for Belizeans to connect while showcasing local culture, music, food and creativity through what its developer describes as a uniquely Belizean app. Godinez said his interest in programming eventually inspired him to create a social media space specifically for Belizeans.
“From a really young age, I realized I enjoy making things and over the past 7 years, I got into programming and encoding. Around this September I was thinking about Belize a lot and feel like it would be nice to have our own really unique space and dat da how YeriSoh come about,” Godinez told 7News Belize.
Briceño has also signed onto the platform, expressing support for the locally developed initiative.
“Innovation is happening right here in Belize. Proud to support homegrown ideas and platforms. Follow me on Yerisoh and let’s keep building “Belizean”!,” the Prime Minister said.
YeriSoh features a social feed where users can share their thoughts and interact with others. The platform also includes a dedicated section for Belizean music, allowing local artists to upload their songs free of charge and promote their work to a targeted Belizean audience.
“There’s the home screen where you can see people’s thoughts, the YeriSoh so to speak but what makes it really unique is the fact that we have an entire section showcasing Belizean music, so any local artist could upload their music free of charge just to promote to a very targeted audience,” Godinez said.
The app also features a kitchen section where users can share recipes, adding another element focused on Belizean culture and community.
With its growing local user base, YeriSoh is positioning itself as a homegrown digital space designed to bring Belizeans together online.
