FIFA U-17 World Cup Qualifiers: Botes summons Teen Cranes squad for Kenya double-header

Uganda Women’s National Team head coach, Sheryl Ulanda Botes, has officially named the provisional Teen Cranes squad tasked with tackling East African rivals Kenya in the upcoming second round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

The highly anticipated double-header will see the Teen Cranes host the first leg on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the FUFA Stadium in Kadiba, before travelling to Nairobi for the return leg at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

The squad entered a residential training camp on Thursday to intensify their preparations, backed by a strong vote of confidence from federation officials who have promised full technical and logistical support.

The Teen Cranes head into the clash brimming with confidence following a spectacular first-round performance against Zimbabwe, whom they dismantled 6-1 on aggregate.

After securing a commanding 2-0 advantage away from home, Uganda completed the job with a ruthless 4-1 victory in Kampala.

However, Coach Botes knows Kenya will provide a much stiffer test. The Kenyan Junior Starlets who made history by competing at the 2024 World Cup in the Dominican Republic earned their spot in this round by destroying Namibia 7-1 on aggregate.

The winner of this blockbuster regional derby will move one step closer to the final round of qualification for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco.

Botes has trusted a balanced mix of youth league talent and rising high school stars, with a heavy presence from SIA International WFC, St. Noa Girls, and Rines SS WFC.
