Following the success of their recent community planting session, Friends of Max Roach Park are putting out a fresh call for volunteers to join their next monthly clean-up this Wednesday 11 March.
Six months ago, organisers say the space was overgrown and largely unused. Through regular sessions, volunteers have cleared brambles, restored pathways and revived the Lavender Maze, transforming it into a welcoming green space filled with new life and activity.
The group recently celebrated with a three-course community meal prepared using surplus food from Lambeth charity Healthy Living Platform (HLP), which trains local residents through its Food Ambassadors programme.
Established in 2020 in partnership with Lambeth Council, the Lambeth Surplus Food Hub redistributes surplus food to more than 40 community organisations across the borough, tackling food insecurity while reducing waste.
The park celebration was one small example of how that network turns excess into shared meals, while free drinks were donated by Londis on the Angell Town Estate.
Held every second Wednesday of the month, the one-hour session focuses on deweeding and litter picking to help keep the park thriving. All are welcome to get involved.
