By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A road traffic accident on the George Price Highway has claimed the life of 27-year-old Thomas Lester Martinez of Georgeville Village.
According to initial police investigations, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:24 p.m. on Saturday night.
Officials say Martinez was driving an all-terrain vehicle, commonly known as an ATV, from Esperanza Village toward Georgeville when he was reportedly struck from behind by a vehicle.
When police and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered Martinez inside a roadside drain suffering from severe injuries. Reports indicate he sustained a broken ankle and was bleeding from the eyes and mouth.
He was rushed to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. He was officially pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m.
Investigators identified the other vehicle involved as a red 2007 Dodge Charger being driven by 20-year-old Hai Ming Chen.
Police found the damaged vehicle approximately 300 yards from the point of impact. Officials reported that the Charger sustained extensive front-end damage consistent with a major collision.
The investigation remains ongoing.
