Ghana Ministry and Digital Policy Alert Partner to Strengthen Digital Governance

Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI)  has partnered with Digital Policy Alert  and the St. Gallen Endowment  for Prosperity through Trade to strengthen the country’s digital governance, regulatory coordination and participation in international digital trade.

The partnership was announced during a high-level stakeholder workshop in Accra, bringing together representatives from government ministries and agencies, academia, industry, civil society and development partners.

Opening the workshop on behalf of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George, Director of the Digital Technology Directorate Bishop Dr. Samuel Antwi-Gyekyi said the engagement comes as Ghana advances its digital transformation agenda.

He highlighted initiatives including the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, improved data governance and the One Million Coders Programme, alongside Ghana’s growing role in digital governance across Africa.

Antwi-Gyekyi stressed that digital transformation requires collaboration beyond government, calling for stronger cooperation between the public sector, industry, academia, entrepreneurs and development partners. Such collaboration, he said, is necessary to translate digital policies into jobs, innovation and economic growth.

The Ministry also welcomed Digital Policy Alert’s expansion into Ghana, highlighting its digital policy intelligence platform and AI-assisted regulatory analysis tools. These resources are expected to support evidence-based policymaking, improve regulatory alignment and strengthen Ghana’s engagement in regional and global digital trade discussions.

The engagement is particularly relevant to Ghana’s participation in emerging digital trade frameworks, including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Protocol on Digital Trade and discussions at the World Trade Organization.

Participants at the workshop received practical insights into tracking global digital policy developments, comparing Ghana’s regulatory framework with international best practices and using technology to strengthen policymaking.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient, inclusive and globally competitive digital economy through continued collaboration with stakeholders and international partners.
