What happens when a room full of people are forced to confront the secrets they’ve spent years hiding? In Death of Delilah, writer Grace crafts a compelling murder mystery that goes far beyond solving a crime. Set within a single location and fueled by betrayal, ambition, and long-buried truths, the production explores the emotional weight of secrecy and the consequences that often follow. Through suspenseful storytelling, unexpected twists, and deeply flawed characters, Grace invites audiences to examine not only the mystery unfolding on stage but also the realities of trust, trauma, and human nature that exist in everyday life.

Mo Clark: Death of Delilah explores a room full of suspects, secrets, and shifting loyalties. What inspired you to create a story where nearly every character has something to hide, and what does that reveal about human nature?
Grace: Human nature is what inspired me to write Death Of Delilah. Everyone has secrets and sometimes those secrets can eat away at us over time. Secrets cause trauma, depression and behavioral changes. So, yes, it’s entertainment but it’s also reality and I thought it was important to showcase that.
Mo Clark: The play unfolds in a single location, which can be both creatively challenging and incredibly powerful. How did you use that confined setting to build suspense, tension, and unexpected twists throughout the story?
Grace: Because the play takes place in one location, it was important to incorporate the acting with background music, sound and lighting. A combination of all four assisted with keeping the drama interesting and the audience on the edge of their seats.

Mo Clark: Beyond the mystery itself, themes of betrayal, trust, and personal ambition seem to drive the narrative. What conversations or reflections do you hope audiences have after leaving the theater?
Grace: We live in a world where personal ambition is priority and trust and loyalty is hard to come by. Everyone is out for self and the people closest to you are normally the ones that hurt you the most. And that is the conversation I want the audience to have. I want them to understand the pain and trauma Delilah went through that caused her to become the person she is. Then I want them to relate it to their own lives and be mindful of how we treat one another; because you never know what a person’s story is.
Mo Clark: A great murder mystery keeps audiences guessing until the very end. As a writer, how did you balance planting clues with creating surprises without giving away too much too soon?
Grace: That’s a great question. I did a lot of daydreaming about all the drama, twists and turns I wanted to incorporate. Then I shared my ideas with friends to gain feedback and perspective, followed by re-reading the script several times as I was writing it to figure out where I wanted to plug things in at and how. It was a long process, and since I have a touch of OCD, I kept playing with the script; removing and adding lines, until it all made sense and everything flowed the way I envisioned it.

Mo Clark: If Delilah’s death serves as the catalyst for exposing everyone’s hidden truths, what do you think is the most dangerous secret a person can carry—and how is that idea reflected in the world of the play?
Grace: There are many secrets a person can carry that can be deemed as dangerous. However, murder, sexual assault, violence or any other secret that involves a crime or causes severe damage to self or others are the most dangerous secrets. That idea is reflected in the play through every character. Every character is holding a secret that can ruin their life or the lives of others, and as the play progresses, you see the consequences of those secrets. It will leave the audience guessing what happens next.
With Death of Delilah, Grace delivers more than a captivating whodunit—she offers a thought-provoking reflection on the secrets people carry and the lasting impact those hidden truths can have on themselves and others. Through layered characters, emotional depth, and carefully crafted suspense, the play challenges audiences to look beyond appearances and consider the untold stories that shape human behavior. As the mystery unravels and shocking revelations come to light, Death of Delilah leaves viewers with a powerful reminder that every action has consequences, every secret has a cost, and sometimes the truth is far more complex than it appears.
