Acclaimed filmmaker Jeymes Samuel continues to expand his impressive slate of projects …

Lionsgate has tapped The Book of Clarence writer-director to helm its upcoming adaptation of SEGA’s iconic video game franchise, Streets of Rage.

The feature film will be penned by Sonic the Hedgehog screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller, building on an earlier screenplay draft by Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick franchise.

Originally launched in the 1990s, Streets of Rage became one of SEGA’s most beloved titles, earning a devoted global fanbase thanks to its action-packed gameplay and enduring popularity across multiple generations of gamers.

The project brings together an extensive producing team including Toru Nakahara, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Tony Shaw, and Derek Kolstad. Casey and Miller will also executive produce alongside Elena Sandoval for Story Kitchen.

Samuel’s appointment marks another major studio opportunity for the British filmmaker, whose distinctive visual style and genre-blending storytelling have established him as one of the industry’s most exciting creative voices.
