DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Football Federation (TFF) president Wallace Karia has called on newly promoted sides Geita Gold FC and Kagera Sugar FC to strengthen their squads and invest in infrastructure as they prepare for the 2026/27 Mainland Premier League season.
Karia said the step is necessary for the clubs to remain competitive at the top level while also improving the matchday experience for supporters. He noted that longterm investment off the pitch is as important as performance on it.
“The league has had a good season with fewer challenges, but there is still work to be done. I commend Geita Gold and Kagera Sugar for earning promotion,” said Karia.
“For the league to grow, we need strong support from stakeholders, and NBC Bank has played a key role across all levels, including support to the national team.”
The NBC Bank has invested more than 32bn/- in football development, supporting competitions from youth level to the top tier, as part of efforts to strengthen structures and player development pathways.
Geita Gold finished the season as Championship winners with 77 points after a consistent campaign, while Kagera Sugar secured second place with 71 points to complete the promotion places.
Geita Gold sealed their title on a high note after a 2-0 victory over Big Man FC of Lindi at Nyankumbu Stadium, where supporters gathered to celebrate the club’s return to the top flight.
Club captain Yusuph Mhilu dedicated the achievement to the players, technical bench, management and supporters, describing the success as a collective effort.
He added that preparations for the Premier League had already begun as the club targets a strong return to elite competition.
NBC Lake Zone Business Head Mafwimbo Bihemo, on behalf of Managing Director Theobald Sabi, congratulated the promoted teams and praised the increasing competitiveness of the league.
He said the growing standards, the emergence of young talent and overall improvement in performances reflect positive progress in Tanzanian football. He also highlighted the role of stakeholders in supporting the growth of domestic football, pointing out the bank’s continued sponsorship of the Mainland Premier League, Championship and youth competitions.
