K.O Reveals The Criteria Artists Need To Earn His Feature. South African rap heavyweight K.O has lifted the lid on what it takes to secure one of his sought-after guest verses, revealing that hit potential and creative value matter far more than streaming numbers or a payday.

Speaking during an interview on YFM’s The Agenda, the veteran rapper was asked about his impressive catalogue of collaborations and what artists need to bring to the table to earn a K.O feature.
Rather than pointing to popularity or commercial success, K.O made it clear that every collaboration begins with one question: does the music have value?
“It’s all about value. A value exchange. That’s what matters most,” he explained, adding that the quality of the song always comes before anything else.
The “SETE” hitmaker stressed that audience size does not influence his decision-making, saying he is unmoved by impressive streaming figures if the music itself fails to inspire him.
“I don’t care if you have a million listeners or two million listeners. If the song doesn’t move me, I’m not doing it,” he said.
K.O also revealed that, unlike many artists who place a price tag on guest appearances, he does not charge for features. According to him, chasing money at the expense of quality would ultimately damage his catalogue and artistic reputation.
“I can’t follow the money. If I just followed the money, that’s how I’d end up on mid records,” he said.
Instead, the rapper believes every collaboration should be mutually beneficial beyond financial gain. Whether it’s artistic growth, creative chemistry or the opportunity to make an unforgettable record, K.O wants every feature to leave him with something meaningful.
“I don’t put the money first. Not all money is good money. I’ve got to learn something from the collaboration too,” he added.
The comments offer insight into why K.O has remained one of South African hip hop’s most respected collaborators over the years. His approach suggests that authenticity, strong songwriting and genuine creative exchange continue to outweigh commercial appeal when deciding whose records he lends his voice to.
