L’Abayee crowned Chaz champions after crushing Monchy

L’Abayee are the champions of the Cepal Holdings Chaz Knockout tournament following a dominant 132-run victory over Monchy in the final. The tapeball cricket competition is held annually in memory of Dhanraj Chaz Cepal, who lost his life in a car accident in 2019.

L’Abayee powered their way to 271 for 6 in 20 overs, having won the toss. The main  contributions came from Kyle Adonis (60), Avallinus Callender (50), Orey Changoo (46) and Zaire Antoine (29). Kirneal Nelson took 2 wickets for Monchy with Imbert Lorde and Isaiah Jones bagging a wicket apiece.

Monchy never truly prospered in the chase, folding for 139 in 16 overs, thanks mainly to a standout performance of 65 from Ashton Alexander. Avallinus Callender (3 wickets), Atanus  Alberson (3 wks) Mavin Hiliare (1 wicket) and Omari Fields (1 wicket), tore through the batting lineup.

For their efforts, the champions walked away with EC$1,000 and a trophy complements Cepal Holdings, while Monchy took home $700. Avallinus Callender was adjudged Most Valuable Player of the final, while Imbert Lorde was bestowed with MVP of the tournament honours.

“[The match] is a way of giving back to the community and the country at large,” Cepal Holdings owner Danny Cepal told St. Lucia Times in a post-match interview. “Having run a business in Saint Lucia and getting the support from the Saint Lucian public, it’s only fitting that we can give back in some shape or form to the development of talents, especially young talents.”
