Lesotho judges appointed for Supreme Court

Two judges from Lesotho have been appointed as acting judges of Namibia’s Supreme Court.

The Judical Service Commission (JSC) announced president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s appointment of the judges on a recommendation of the JSC on Friday.

The judges appointed as acting judges of appeal of the Supreme Court are Realeboha Mathaba and Polo Banyane.

Mathaba and Banyane are both serving as judges of the High Court of Lesotho, and are also acting judges of Lesotho’s Court of Appeal.

They have been appointed as acting judges of appeal in Namibia from the start of September to the end of December this year.

The JSC also announced the appointment of three acting judges of the High Court.

Retired High Court judge Marlene Tommasi has been appointed as an acting judge of the High Court from the start of September to the end of December. Tommasi also served as an acting judge of the High Court at Oshakati from the start of April to the end of June this year.

Deputy chief magistrate Kandiwapa Nembia has been appointed as an acting judge of the High Court from the start of October this year to the end of April next year, the JSC announced.

Nembia has been a magistrate since 2018 and has completed the aspirant judges training programme conducted by the High Court, the JSC said.

Senior counsel Deon Obbes, who has been practising law as a member of the Society of Advocates of Namibia since 2005, has been appointed as an acting judge of the High Court from the start of October to 11 December, the JSC announced as well.

Obbes also served as an acting judge of the High Court during July and August last year.
