By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A dispute over an extension cord and a light bill escalated into a knife threat in San Pedro Town on Monday night, and a woman is now detained pending a charge of aggravated assault after allegedly pointing a five-inch blade at an 18-year-old neighbour who came to reconnect his family’s power.
According to the Belize Police Department, the young man, an electrician of the DFC area, reported that on Monday, August 10, 2026, he arrived home from work at about 8:00 p.m. to find the lights on in the house he shares with his parents. At about 8:20 p.m., the lights went out, and his father asked him to go outside to the steps to connect the extension, as the woman living upstairs was plugging it out.
According to his report, he went to the steps toward the second floor and stood about four feet from the upstairs veranda when he heard knocking. Looking up, he saw a woman knocking the wall with a silver-looking blade knife with a black handle, measuring about five inches in length.
The woman told him that they had not yet paid for the light, so he could not connect the extension, the report states. When he replied that his parents had already paid and that he could connect it, the woman allegedly told him, “if you connect the extension you wah see,” while pointing the knife at him.
The young man went downstairs to his room and informed his parents, who called the police. Officers arrived shortly after, detained the woman, and escorted her to the San Pedro Police Station.
A statement was recorded from the complainant, and a 36-year-old woman of the DFC area is detained pending a charge of aggravated assault, with an acknowledgement form issued.
