Makwa On Why Being Independent Is Tough. Producer Makwa has offered a candid perspective on the challenges of being an independent artist, highlighting the amount of work that goes into running a music career without a team or established structure behind you.

Makwa explained that while there is growing encouragement for artists to remain independent and take control of their careers, managing everything alone is not as straightforward as it may appear from the outside.

“People don’t understand the difficulty that is just running the whole thing yourself,” Makwa said, pointing to the pressure that comes with handling different responsibilities without the support of a dedicated team.

The producer also acknowledged that independence requires self-awareness and wisdom, particularly when it comes to recognising areas where an artist may need help. For Makwa, being a producer does not necessarily mean he is naturally equipped to manage every business and administrative aspect of a career.

He pointed out that while an artist is busy handling every responsibility themselves, they could end up watching artists who started behind them progress further because those artists have assembled the right teams around them.
