By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man is out on bail after being charged with burglary in connection with the theft of more than $2,000 worth of items from a Logwood Street residence.
Richard Bennett appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to a single charge of burglary.
Police allege that on August 26, 2026, Bennett entered the home of a tour guide on Logwood Street and stole a 32-inch Samsung flat-screen television valued at $750, a crystal bottle valued at $5 containing approximately $1,000 in coins, and a pair of loafer shoes valued at $260. The total value of the stolen property was reported at $2,010.
According to police, the homeowner left his home secured at around 11:30 a.m. and returned to find the house ransacked. Investigators later observed that three glass louvers in the bathroom had been broken, which police believe was the point of entry.
An eyewitness reportedly told investigators that she saw Bennett in the area carrying a television covered with a plastic bag and later saw him return for it after it had been hidden nearby.
The prosecution did not object to bail but requested conditions. Bennett was granted bail in the sum of $2,000 with one surety of the same amount.
As part of his bail conditions, Bennett must report to the Queen Street Police Station every Wednesday and Saturday, remain at least 100 yards away from Gill, and refrain from interfering with prosecution witnesses.
He is scheduled to return to court on October 5, 2026.
