Meet the Duo Walking Across South Africa to Fight Joblessness and Crime

Stepping up for a stronger community, King Nobevu and Thokozani Tevo have been walking from Ekurhuleni to Cape Town to fight unemployment by inspiring a future built on skills development and purpose.

Western Cape, South Africa (12 May 2026) – High unemployment has long been a persistent challenge in our country. For years, it has hindered young people striving for a brighter future, burdened adults managing households, and strained already disadvantaged communities.

It is a continuous struggle, but the fight against it is just as relentless.

Driven by a mission to uplift their community through skills development, King Nobevu and Thokozani Tevo are currently embarking on an Epic Walk from Ekurhuleni to Cape Town. Their goal? To raise vital funds for the Pariio Community Skills Centre.

The Pariio Community Skills Centre is a non-profit initiative created to equip both youth and adults with practical handwork skills. By mastering these crafts, participants can become self-employed and generate a sustainable income.

“This project was built to fight the high unemployment rate faced by our people,” shares Nobevu.

“It also serves as a catalyst for combating drug abuse and crime. We want to ensure that everyone has a purpose and a path, so they don’t find themselves turning to wrongdoing.”

The centre has already registered 70 people and aims to offer fundamental handwork skills such as sewing, carpentry, baking, and welding. However, their primary obstacle remains securing the necessary funds to purchase machinery, which is essential for delivering these lessons to the people who need them most.

Novebu and Tevo’s Epic 1,400km Walk has been met with camaraderie and support from members of the public, with folk from across the country offering them encouragement, refreshments and accommodation along the way.

As they near the end of their journey, they call on more South Africans to help empower more people to overcome unemployment and the odds stacked against them.
