By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) issued a statement on September 13 informing that it was aware of reports regarding the potential disruption of bus routes and acknowledged that delays in the contractual process have contributed to delays in payments.
“We are working diligently, in consultation with the Ministry of Finance, to facilitate payments,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry said principals and school communities that may be affected have been notified and asked to provide support to students who could be impacted.
“Recognizing that some school bus routes may be affected, the Ministry sincerely regrets the inconvenience this may cause to students, parents, teachers and schools,” the statement said.
The Ministry indicated that efforts are underway to resolve the matter, with payments expected to be facilitated by midweek.
The Ministry also assured the public that it remains focused on maintaining access to education despite the transportation concerns.
“The MoECST remains committed to ensuring that students can access their education safely and consistently and will provide further updates as this matter progresses,” the Ministry stated.
