Ministry of Investment, United Nations Industrial Development Organization complete advanced COMFAR training in Belize

By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Investment, through its Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have completed an advanced-level training on financial analysis of investment projects using the Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting (COMFAR).

The training, held under the Office of the Prime Minister, concluded on October 2, 2026, with the aim of strengthening Belize’s capacity to assess and support local and foreign investment projects.

The training equipped government officials with tools and methodologies for project appraisal and feasibility analysis. COMFAR is a software tool designed to complement investment assessment efforts by providing financial and economic analysis for industrial and non-industrial projects over the short and long term. The initiative is intended to help government officials make more informed assessments of potential investments and their economic viability.

The training was funded by UNIDO through its project, “The Belize Industrial Strategy with Green and Blue Industrial Policies,” which supports Belize’s broader economic development goals. Under the initiative, six priority value chains have been identified as potential growth clusters, including fisheries and aquaculture value addition, seaweed farming and processing, boatbuilding, the industrial bioeconomy, cacao and chocolate manufacturing, and the coconut value chain.

Ten technical officers from the Economic Development Council, Public-Private Partnership Unit, BELTRAIDE and the IPCU participated in the training. COMFAR is expected to be used to assess these priority value chains, along with other economic activities, to support the development of policies aimed at promoting sustainable investment and future economic growth.

Present at the closing ceremony were IPCU Director Lincoln Blake and UNIDO COMFAR Coordinator Robert Novak.
