By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 56-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized on Friday afternoon following a traffic accident at the intersection of Faber’s Road and Whistling Duck Street in Belize City.

According to preliminary police investigations, Julio Contreras was riding his black Honlei motorcycle along Faber’s Road shortly after 3:20 p.m. when the collision occurred.

Police say Contreras was traveling from the direction of Watermelon Street toward Rio Bravo Crescent when a green Honda Pilot SUV driven by 45-year-old Silvia Antonia Martinez reportedly came to a stop and attempted to turn left onto Whistling Duck Street.

Investigators believe the turn placed the SUV directly into the path of the motorcycle, causing Contreras to collide with the vehicle’s left front bumper.

The impact reportedly caused the motorcyclist to lose control and fall onto the roadway before the motorcycle crashed into a nearby culvert.

Contreras sustained abrasions and was transported by ambulance to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

Both vehicles suffered damage, with the SUV’s front bumper broken and the motorcycle sustaining extensive damage to its dashboard, front fender and headlamp.

Police investigations are ongoing.
