MTN Uganda has strengthened maternal and newborn healthcare services in Bunyangabu District as part of its 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, combining technology, healthcare support and community outreach.
The initiative, themed “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community,” brought MTN Uganda staff together with local leaders, healthcare workers and partners at Kibiito Health Centre IV. The two-day intervention focused on strengthening healthcare services while building longer-term community capacity.
Beyond direct healthcare support, the programme included digital literacy training, financial literacy sessions, EMRIS capacity building, community health outreach and environmental conservation activities. These interventions were designed to improve both the skills and systems supporting healthcare delivery in the district.
MTN Uganda also donated a range of medical equipment and digital tools to Kibiito Health Centre IV. The items included Kabode smartphones, bicycles, postnatal beds, an oxygen concentrator, a patient waiting room monitor, blood pressure cuffs, a suture kit, delivery packs, laryngeal mask airways, paediatric reservoir bags and a delivery couch with stirrups.
Speaking during the engagement, Franklin Kano Ocharo, MTN Uganda’s General Manager for Growth & New Business, said Y’ello Care is focused on strengthening the systems, skills and services needed to improve access to quality healthcare for mothers, newborns and families.
Ocharo reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to using technology, partnerships and employee volunteerism to create meaningful change in communities. The company’s intervention highlights the role digital tools can play alongside healthcare infrastructure and capacity building in improving community health services.
Richard Obeti, District Health Officer for Bunyangabu District, welcomed the initiative and highlighted the importance of equipping frontline health facilities with digital tools, capacity building and essential medical equipment to improve health outcomes for mothers and children.
The Bunyangabu intervention is the first of four health facility engagements planned under this year’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign. The initiative demonstrates MTN Uganda’s focus on combining technology, employee participation and partnerships to support stronger, more resilient and better-connected communities.
