From providing hot meals to emergency relief, Mustadafin Foundation teams are currently on the front lines in the Western Cape, supporting families who have lost everything in the severe floods.
Western Cape, South Africa (12 May 2026) – The Western Cape has been hit by a series of severe weather events, causing catastrophic damage to infrastructure and property. Beyond the physical destruction, the storms have directly threatened the safety and well-being of families across the province.
As severe flooding continues to impact communities across the Western Cape, the Mustadafin Foundation is working tirelessly on the ground to support affected families.
Heavy rains and flooding have left many households displaced, with families losing essential belongings, including beds, clothing, food, and household items. Children and elderly residents are among the most vulnerable as cold winter conditions continue.
Mustadafin teams are side-by-side with residents, offering help where it’s needed most, but the scale of the devastation requires urgent additional assistance.
The organisation is urgently appealing for donations of:
- Blankets and warm clothing
- Non-perishable food items
- Fresh produce, specifically vegetables
- Baby products and hygiene packs
- Financial contributions to assist with relief efforts
Every item in good condition will go directly to a family in need. Every rand will be used with care.
“All across the Western Cape, families are facing unimaginable hardship after these floods. Many people have lost almost everything overnight,” says Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, director of Mustadafin Foundation.
“During times like these, compassion and community support matter more than ever. Every blanket, every food parcel, every donation, no matter how small, can help restore dignity, warmth, and hope to a family in crisis. We are calling on communities, businesses, and individuals to stand together and support those who need us most.”
Donations can be dropped off at Mustadafin Foundation, or supporters can contact the organisation directly via WhatsApp or telephone on 021 633 0010 for more information on how to assist.
