Police in Bweyogerere have opened investigations into the death of an 18-year-old student at Naalya Secondary School Bweyogerere Campus in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The student was reportedly found hanging inside a school toilet block on the evening of July 8, 2026.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the student was discovered unresponsive in the boys’ section of the school premises, prompting school authorities to alert police.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was seen entering the toilet block shortly before he was discovered,” Owoyesigyire said.

Police also recovered a handwritten note at the scene, believed to have been authored by the deceased. The note has since been secured and is being examined as part of ongoing investigations.

“Its contents are being analysed and will form part of the inquiry,” Owoyesigyire added.

The body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police say inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, with more details expected as investigations progress.

Authorities have extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the Naalya Secondary School community.

The incident has once again raised concern over student welfare and the need for stronger mental health support systems in schools to assist learners facing personal challenges.
