Richard Basangwa scored the winning goal as NEC beat Maroons 1-0 at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo to extend unbeaten streak to sixteen matches.
The win also meant that the Bugolobi based side are unbeaten against Maroons in six outings in which five have ended in their favour.
Basangwa’s winner arrived in the 34th minute and the hosts held on for maximum points.
NEC are now on 40 points in 6th position while Maroons remain 9th with 29 points after match week twenty-three.Match day 24 of the premier league gets underway on Tuesday April 21.
Meanwhile, Match day 23 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier league comes to end when NEC host Maroons at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.
The hosts, NEC come into the game on the back of fifteen straight matches in all competitions and Maroons will hope to stop that run.
On top of that, they have a good record against Maroons that spans five matches without defeat winning four, drawn once, this season’s clash at Luzira which ended in a 1-1 draw with Marvin Kavuma netting for NEC and Ivan Asaba for Maroons.
A win for Badru Kaddu’s Bugolobi based side will see them replace Police in 6th position while Maroons will overtake BUL in 8th position with maximum points.
