Noah Kahan Gives Impassioned Apology to Fans Affected by Canceled Show: ‘I Don’t Expect Any Sympathy’

Noah Kahan gave an impassioned apology on stage to the fans who were affected by the cancelation of his show in New York City on Saturday (July 18).

“I just want to apologize for the cancelation of our show last night,” the singer-songwriter began earnestly during his Sunday (July 19) show in a video captured by Billboard. “I know you guys were all here. I don’t expect any sympathy at all. I am so f–king sorry for the folks that stood all day in the rain and traveled. I’ve been thinking about you guys.”
Kahan had been scheduled to play two back-to-back concerts at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y., but was forced to pull the plug on the first due to inclement weather. The following night’s show proceeded as planned, aside from the moment he took between songs to address the fans in the city who were left disappointed the night prior.
“I’ve probably played about 500 shows, and I’ve canceled six in my life, and they’ve only ever been when we cannot do anything else but cancel the show,” he continued. “I promise you I would play in a f–king volcano — in the hole of a volcano — for you all. I promise you we did everything we could, weird s–t to try to reschedule it, and I’m sorry, I just feel horrible. I’m really sorry. You deserve better than that.”
The Vermont native’s speech comes after an outpouring of posts and messages from frustrated fans who’d waited through severe thunderstorms to see him play, just for the venue to announce the show had been canceled shortly before doors were supposed to open. “This was a very difficult decision to make, but the first priority is always to keep everyone safe,” stated Citi Field, which had initially issued an adjusted schedule for the show’s start in the face of the inclement weather.
“Exhausted every option to make this happen.. love you guys,” Kahan also wrote at the time on his Story.
The musician has been on the road since mid-June, kicking off his tour supporting three-week Billboard 200-topper The Great Divide in Orlando before making his way through Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and more U.S. cities. Following his halved stay in Queens, Kahan will continue on a North American leg before heading overseas to Australia in September and Europe in November.
Kahan wasn’t the only artist whose tour schedule was impacted by the storms in New York. Zeds Dead also ended up postponing its Forest Hills Stadium performance from Saturday night to Aug. 14, writing in a statement, “The weather is just being too difficult.”
