ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police announced on Wednesday that investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested four more individuals following multiple violent robberies in Brampton.

Between April and May, police investigated three separate incidents where suspects engaged with victims via social media, to arrange in-person meetings under false pretenses. Upon meeting, the victims were reportedly robbed, and in some cases a firearm was presented.

On Saturday, May 31, two suspects were initially arrested: Abhijot Singh, a 20-year-old man from Brampton, and Ridhampreet Singh, a 21-year-old man from Mississauga.

However, as the investigation progressed, a total of six suspects were identified. Investigators now believe that the suspects relied on false pretences to target South Asians, including members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and lure them into meeting.

On Friday, July 4, police executed search warrants at several residences in the Region of Peel. As a result, 18-year-old Hardil Singh Mehrok of Brampton and two male youth aged 16 and 17 were arrested and charged with two counts of kidnapping and three counts of robbery.

The individuals were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

An arrest warrant has been sought for 20-year-old Preetpal Kooner of Mississauga for the same offences.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not come forward out of fear. Police said investigators will prioritize protecting the identity and well-being of all victims. The Crown Attorney’s Office is being consulted with respect to hate-motivated charges.

Peel Regional Police is reminding community members to exercise caution when arranging to meet individuals they have met online. Consider the following safety measures:

  • Always meet in public places, especially during the initial meeting.
  • Inform a friend or family member of your plans, including the location and time of your meeting.
  • Verify the identity of individuals through video calls or other means before agreeing to meet in person.
  • Trust your instincts—if something feels off, do not proceed.
  • Report any suspicious or criminal behaviour to law enforcement.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact investigators with the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121 extension 2133. Anonymous information may also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
