Operation Dudula warns South Africa will suffer consequences of Zanu PF’s 2030 agenda

THE contentious Constitutional Amendment Bill, recently approved by the cabinet, is predicted to worsen the migration of Zimbabweans to neighbouring countries, sparking fears of xenophobic attacks.

The bill, which was tabled before the cabinet chaired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, includes clauses that would increase presidential and parliamentary terms from the current five years to seven.

This would effectively lead to the suspension of the 2028 elections, when President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office is scheduled to end under the current constitutional provisions.

The bill also seeks to amend the constitution to allow traditional leaders to participate in politics, and for the president to be elected by Parliament.

The bill has riled the opposition in Zimbabwe, which has vowed to mount a serious fight despite doubts over its capacity.

South African anti-migrant vigilante group Operation Dudula said in a statement that if the bill is passed into law, it would result in an influx of Zimbabweans into South Africa.

“Another surge of Zimbabweans coming as Zimbabwe approves plan for Parliament to choose president.

“Zimbabwe’s cabinet has approved a bill allowing Parliament, not voters, to elect the president, potentially extending Mnangagwa’s rule to 2030.

“Critics warn the move undermines democracy and could trigger increased migration, as more Zimbabweans seek stability and opportunities outside the country, particularly in South Africa,” read the statement.

Operation Dudula is one of the groups pushing for the removal of undocumented foreigners in South Africa, whom it accuses of straining public services meant for natives
