Acclaimed Nigerian novelist and medical doctor Wale Okediran is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom this winter for a book tour celebrating his latest book, Madagali.
The tour will feature readings and Q&A sessions at leading literary venues across London and Wales, media interviews with cultural and literary journalists, book signings and fireside chats addressing the topics explored in the book.
Okediran, who turned 70 earlier in the year, is a former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and currently serves as Secretary-General of the Pan-African Writers Association (PAWA). His work has been translated into multiple languages and continues to shape conversations around African literature on a global scale. His writing blends medical insight, political awareness, and human empathy, making him one of Nigeria’s most compelling contemporary voices. His works include Rainbows Are For Lovers (1987), Dreams Die At Twilight (2001), After The Flood (2003) and Tenants Of The House (2009) which has since been adapted into a feature film.
Okediran’s most recent offering, Madagali (Abibiman Publishing) focuses on the themes of displacement and resilience of the human spirit in the face of conflict. Set in the North-Eastern region of contemporary Nigeria, it fixates on the pathetic nature of Nigeria’s prolonged fight against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents, with a complex romantic dilemma rearing its head amid all the chaos. A factional account of what can be described as Nigeria’s greatest domestic challenge after the 1967 Nigerian civil war, the book follows 24-year old Bukar Salisu, a patriotic young Nigerian who joins the army to defend his motherland from terrorists.
