By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police say Dan Lopez has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of Alfred Mahler in the Maya Ranch area of the Cayo District.
During Monday’s police press briefing, investigators confirmed that Lopez was charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.
Police also reported recovering a .223 rifle which investigators believe was used in the shooting.
Lopez was taken before the court on Monday.
Mahler was shot last week while travelling in the Maya Ranch area. Previous reports indicated that he was struck by gunfire after a vehicle reportedly followed the vehicle in which he was travelling.
Police had earlier confirmed detaining a person and recovering a .223 rifle as part of the investigation.
The Maya Ranch area has been the subject of an ongoing land dispute involving farmers and private landowners.
The investigation into the shooting continues.
