Police commend public for helping in fight against drugs and substance misuse

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has hailed the general public for supporting law enforcement agencies in tackling the menace of drugs and substance misuse.

The plaudits come in the wake of tips from members of the public that led to the arrest of two drug peddlers and their subsequent court appearance, conviction and sentencing.

In a statement, ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi thanked the public for its vigilance.

“The ZRP applauds members of the public and courts for their continued cooperation and support in the fight against drug and substance abuse,” he said.

“This follows the conviction of Sylia Tanyanyiwa (41) and Simbarashe Maenzanise (41) for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs, including dagga and Broncleer Cough Syrup.”

Tanyanyiwa was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, while Maenzanise received an effective sentence of four years and six months’ imprisonment.

“The ZRP urges the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting drug-related activities. The police reiterates that crime does not pay and that the fight against drug and substance abuse will continue,” added Nyathi.
