BURNABY RCMP are asking the public for dashcam video and witnesses after a collision that has left two young pedestrians — an 11-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl — in the hospital with serious injuries.

On Saturday at approximately 12:45 p.m., frontline officers responded to a report of a collision involving two young pedestrians on Hastings Street, just east of Delta Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, a grey Mercedes sedan, was travelling westbound on Hastings Street when the collision occurred near Hythe Avenue. The driver remained on scene.

Both pedestrians were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Hastings Street was shut down in both directions between Delta Avenue and Springer Avenue and will remain closed as investigators remain on scene collecting evidence.

Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team has conduct of the investigation.

RCMP say that for the privacy of the family, they will not be providing any further details at this time.

“We are doing everything we can to support the families and loved ones of these children, but we need the public’s assistance here,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP.

Police are requesting for anyone that may have witnessed the collision and have not yet spoken to police to come forward. Police are also asking for anyone with dashcam video on Hastings Street, from anywhere east of Springer Avenue, between 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m., on Saturday, May 2, to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 2026-14863.

This plea includes any feeder roads north or south of Hastings Street.

“With these children and their loved ones in mind, please contact our investigators with any information or dashcam footage. We are not just asking for video around the collision, we would like to speak to anyone with dashcam video on Hastings Street and any feeder roads between 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. anywhere east of Springer Avenue as well,” said Kalanj.
