POSHgirl on the Move: Beverley Wilson Brings Caribbean Expertise to Tourism Intelligence

Guyanese economist Beverley Wilson steps into a key role at the Caribbean Tourism Organization, bringing more than two decades of experience to the data and decisions shaping the region’s most important industry.

We love seeing Caribbean women move into the rooms where decisions about our region’s future are being shaped.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) has appointed Guyanese national Beverley Wilson as Deputy Director of Research, placing the experienced economist and statistical analyst in a key role supporting tourism intelligence and evidence-based decision-making across CTO member countries.

Wilson officially assumed her duties on September 1, bringing more than 20 years of experience spanning economic and statistical analysis, policy evaluation, banking, finance and education.

Her career has taken her from the Bank of Guyana to Montserrat’s Ministry of Economic Development and Tradeand The University of the West Indies. She has also served as a consultant with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Now, she brings that Caribbean experience to a role focused on helping the region better understand—and plan for—the future of tourism.

From Data to Decisions

Wilson will provide technical leadership in tourism statistics, data quality, forecasting and statistical analysis.

It may happen largely behind the scenes, but this is important work.

Tourism decisions are increasingly driven by understanding who is travelling, where visitors are coming from, how they spend, how markets are changing and where new opportunities are emerging.

“Reliable tourism intelligence is fundamental to making better decisions and strengthening the competitiveness of the Caribbean,”

said Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO Secretary-General and CEO, who noted that Wilson brings both considerable technical expertise and a strong understanding of the regional environment.

Her appointment directly supports tourism intelligence, one of five pillars guiding CTO’s Reimagine Plan 2025–2027, alongside advocacy, market competitiveness, sustainable and regenerative tourism, and people development.

A Caribbean Woman Helping Shape Caribbean Tourism

For Caribbean POSH, Wilson’s appointment is also about representation beyond visibility.

We celebrate seeing Caribbean women on stages and at the helm of organizations, but leadership also happens in the spaces where research is conducted, policy is informed, strategies are developed and the numbers behind major economic decisions are interpreted.

For a tourism-dependent region, better intelligence can help destinations understand visitor behaviour, identify emerging markets, improve planning and make more informed decisions about how tourism can create greater value for Caribbean economies and communities.

Wilson brings significant technical preparation to that challenge. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, a graduate diploma in development studies and a master’s degree in quantitative finance, complemented by professional and technical training. Her areas of expertise include econometric modelling and forecasting, statistical methodology and data governance.

In her new position, she will help strengthen tourism statistical systems and improve how tourism intelligence is gathered, analyzed and applied across CTO member countries.

And that makes Beverley Wilson a #POSHgirl on the move worth watching.

Because Caribbean women aren’t simply participating in the region’s future.

We are increasingly helping to research it, plan it and shape it.
