*Michaela Coel has said she believes the United Kingdom is no longer viewed as an appealing destination for many West Africans, pointing to shifting attitudes shaped by recent political tensions and public demonstrations over immigration.

The actress, who divides her time between London and Ghana, said life feels more settled in her home country as debate over migration continues in the UK. She noted that protests focused on immigration have contributed to her changing perspective on where she feels most at ease.

Speaking about recent demonstrations in London, Coel described them as unusual, saying, “It just seems a bit odd because I don’t think many people are racing to immigrate to the UK like they used to,” she said in an interview with The Sunday Times. She added, “I think more and more, if people can find a way out – I’m talking particularly for West Africans – they will go. I think the UK has lost the attraction it once had.”

Her comments come amid ongoing public marches in the capital, including a rally where demonstrators raised concerns about immigration policy and national direction. The event drew attention after public figures and political commentators became involved in the broader debate.

Coel also said she now feels “more at peace” in Ghana, where she is currently working on a new BBC drama series titled “First Day On Earth.” Her remarks land at a time when immigration continues to be a major political issue in Britain, with rising Channel crossings and heated debate over border policy shaping national conversation.
