From the Bono Region, DANIEL DZIRASAH reports that the Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Baba Seidu, led the prayers at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani, the Bono Regional Capital.

During his sermon, the Chief Imam called for respect for state authorities, especially the President, the Vice-President, the Speaker of Parliament, the Judiciary, and religious institutions.

He admonished the congregants to eschew traits such as wickedness, backbiting, selfishness, and other vices inimical to national development, stressing that such acts were against the tenets of the Holy Quran.

Alhaji Baba Seidu also prayed for Allah’s mercy upon departed souls.

The Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, Mr Mubarak Seid, who represented the Bono Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, presented assorted food items, including rice, sugar, a ram, and a cash donation to the office of the Regional Chief Imam to support the celebration.

Imam Ali Mohammed leading the prayers

SAMUEL AGBEWODE reports from Ho in the Volta Region that at exactly 9:00 a.m., Muslims from all walks of life converged at the Police Training School Park, where prayers were offered to climax the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

Imam Ali Mohammed, who presided over the prayers, prayed for good health and Allah’s guidance for the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), chiefs, and other leaders of the country.

He admonished Muslim youth to live in peace with all persons, show love to one another, and promote unity.

Imam Mohammed urged them to allow Islamic teachings, which encourage compassion towards humanity, to reflect in their daily lives in order to facilitate peace and national development.

The Afetorfia of Ho, Togbe Adu Bobi, who led a delegation of Asogli chiefs to the ceremony, commended Muslims for a peaceful and successful celebration and urged them to keep their environment clean, particularly during the rainy season.

Togbe Adu Bobi said there was no difference between the Islamic and Christian religions, as both promoted peace, unity, and love among their adherents, which were essential for national development.

The President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Volta Region, Sariki Yushau Bashiru Turanah, appealed to the government to establish an Islamic Senior High School in the region to help instil Islamic values in the youth for national development.

From the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly, VICTOR A. BUXTON reports that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Alfredos Nii Anyetei, has expressed concern over divisions within the Muslim community in La and called for unity among the various groups to promote development and peaceful coexistence.

According to him, the existence of separate Muslim groups within the municipality was affecting coordination, representation, and support for the community.

Speaking during Eid-ul-Adha prayers in La, Mr Anyetei noted that the divisions had created challenges for the assembly, particularly during official engagements and community programmes.

He stated that unity among the Muslim groups would place them in a stronger position to benefit from support and interventions from the assembly and other stakeholders.

“It would be better for the groups to unite so that when assistance is being given, more support can be extended to them as one body,” the MCE said.

The Municipal Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdur Rashid Nii Anyetei Odoi-Atsem, thanked the MCE for his advice and support towards the event.
