SC asks Delhi Police to create fear that those committing crimes against women will ‘die’
‘If you have to be a little more harsh do not hesitate. There will be people who raise a hue and cry about Article 21, but...do your duty,’ the bench said.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the police to create “fear and fright” among persons found to be threatening the safety of women in Delhi, saying that offenders should know that they could “die” if they committed such offences, Bar and Bench reported.
“There should be fear…in the mind of the man who is prone to commit such offences,” the legal news outlet quoted the bench as verbally observing. “Unless that fear and fright is created ki ‘ab kuch kiya toh mar jayenge’ (if we do anything now, we will die), you will not be able to prevent such crimes.”
The court added: “Apprehending them, putting them behind bars is not the solution.”
The court told the police not to hesitate to be “a little more harsh” against persons committing crimes against women.
“If you have to be a little more strict, a little more harsh, do not hesitate,” the bench said. “There will be people who will raise a hue and cry about Article 21, but you have to do your duty.”
Article 21 of the Constitution guarantees the right to life and personal liberty.
