Small Scale gold miners output hits 2,525kg

GOLD output from the Artisanal Small Scale Miners surged to 2,525.6 kg in February complementing the total 31,5% overall increase recorded during the period, Fidelity Gold Refineries (FGR) said in the latest update.

The gold buyer said for the period ended February 28 2026, gold output reached 3,412.9kg, up from the 2,596.1kg recorded in the same period last year.

The significant increase was anchored by small-scale and artisanal miners, whose contributions rose to 2,525.6 kg representing a 54% increase from the 1,640.3 kg delivered in the same month last year, injecting nearly 74% of the country’s total gold deliveries for the month.

On the other hand, large-scale primary producers saw a slight decline in performance with output dropping to 887,2 kg  down from 955,7 kg yielded in the same period last year.

Small-scale and artisanal miners in Zimbabwe (ASMs) are crucial to the economy, contributing over 60% of national gold deliveries and providing livelihoods for an estimated 1.5 million people.

While they drive rural development and export earnings, the sector faces significant challenges with informality, unsafe working conditions, and environmental damage from mercury use.
