Sunny skies at home while Bertha nears the US coast

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize’s golden run of weather continues, with sunshine ruling the day, a clear evening ahead, and Tropical Storm Bertha keeping its distance far to the north as it closes on the United States Gulf coast.

According to the National Meteorological Service, a light to moderate easterly airflow continues to support mainly fair and warm weather. Skies will be sunny today with a few cloudy spells, turning clear to partly cloudy tonight, with only isolated showers expected.

That evening forecast is welcome news for the west in particular, where the Saunders Food Truck Festival takes over the Cahal Pech Village Resort parking lot tonight from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with conditions shaping up perfectly for an outdoor evening of food and family fun.

On the tropical front, Bertha remains a story for the US coast, not ours. At 6:00 a.m., Tropical Storm Bertha was centered near latitude 29.6N, longitude 88.5W, about 45 miles northeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River, moving west at 5 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Elsewhere in the region, tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 48 hours.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) and a low of 82 (28 Celsius). Inland areas will be hot, climbing to 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) and dropping to 73 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a cool low of 67 (19 Celsius).

At sea, winds will blow from the east at 10 to 15 knots, with a light chop and waves of 2 to 4 feet, another fine day on the water.

Looking ahead to Thursday and Thursday night, the mainly fair weather continues, with only isolated showers expected.
