Customers of CIBC Caribbean are being put on alert following an increase in calls being made by scammers to trick people into revealing sensitive banking information.
In a statement, the regional bank said reports have surfaced in recent days of individuals receiving suspicious calls displaying the bank’s logo, with callers attempting to convince recipients to reveal or verify sensitive banking details.
According to the bank, some of the fraudulent calls have been made through Google Meet and other social media applications. Customers have also reported receiving messages from email addresses resembling cibccustomer@gmail.com.
CIBC Caribbean stressed that these are fraudulent attempts and reminded customers that the bank does not contact clients in this manner or request personal banking details through such channels.
The bank is urging customers not to engage with suspected scammers and to report all suspicious activity immediately to its Fraud Team by emailing fraud@cibccaribbean.com and sharing a screenshot of the call or communication.
Customers can also contact the bank directly using the number listed on the back of their bank card, particularly if they believe they may have already shared information with fraudsters.
CIBC Caribbean further advised that its representatives will never contact customers via social media, text message, email or telephone to request that they download remote desktop applications, click suspicious links or share sensitive details.
This includes One-Time Verification Codes, PINs, card numbers, CVV codes, expiration dates, email addresses, passwords or login credentials.
The bank said it remains committed to protecting customers through robust security systems, but stressed that customers must also remain alert and cautious to help keep their accounts secure.
