Takealot changes its name – for a month
South Africa’s biggest online retailer is giving its iconic delivery boxes a distinctly local makeover this Heritage Month.
South Africa’s biggest online retailer is giving its iconic delivery boxes a distinctly local makeover this Heritage Month.
For the first time in its 15-year history, Takealot is changing the name displayed on its delivery boxes, replacing its familiar branding with translations of “Takealot” in South Africa’s 12 official languages.

The campaign began on 1 September 2026, with millions of parcels set to arrive at homes across the country carrying different versions of the Takealot name.
Among them are Vatbaie, Tsayagolegontsi and Thath’okuningi, with each translation representing the same promise from the online retailer: “Happy Delivered”.
Takealot described the initiative as “a celebration of South Africa’s people, cultures and shared identity”.
Looks different
The retailer said the campaign celebrates the diversity, cultures and communities that have shaped the company since it launched in Cape Town in 2011.
For millions of South Africans, the next Takealot parcel arriving at their door could therefore look a little different – and, quite literally, speak their language.
