New Hangar Will Serve as a Satellite Campus: Texas Southern University at Houston Spaceport
What: Texas Southern University will cut the ribbon on Texas Southern University at Houston Spaceport, a new facility built in partnership with the City of Houston and Houston Airports. The Aviation program will house its new fleet of 12 Cirrus SR20 aircraft purchased in 2025 in the new 20,000 square foot hangar. The facility also boasts 4,500 feet of office and classroom space that will allow for deeper instruction on-site, as well as instruction for the aerospace engineering program approved for development by the Board of Regents in February. It also boasts an 8,000-gallon fuel tank, creating new fuel independence that will save the program hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel costs. The new facility further propels Texas Southern’s aviation program on its upward trajectory, further aligns it with industry standards, and equips students with the skills and experience to excel in corporate, aerospace and commercial aviation.
