Togo has officially launched Campus 42 in Lomé, marking what authorities describe as a first-of-its-kind initiative in West Africa aimed at strengthening digital skills and innovation capacity. The program is expected to train hundreds of young people annually in key fields such as programming, data science, and artificial intelligence.
The initiative is led by the Ministère de l’Efficacité du Service Public et de la Transformation Numérique, Togo in partnership with the AXIAN Group (through Yas Togo ), the 42 Network, and with support from France. The training model is based on an innovative, project-driven approach that emphasizes hands-on learning, peer collaboration, and autonomy, and notably does not require formal academic qualifications for admission.
Officials say the goal goes beyond training alone, focusing instead on building a strong pipeline of digital talent to support Togo’s broader digital transformation agenda and contribute to the development of the wider West African sub-region. The initiative is also expected to enhance the country’s attractiveness as a regional technology hub.
The launch event highlighted high-level participation, including French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, alongside contributions from industry and ecosystem leaders such as Pierre-Antoine LEGAGNEUR of Yas Togo and Matina Gaël EGBIDI of TogoTech. Their involvement underscores the international and multi-stakeholder collaboration behind the project.
