By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating a shooting incident in San Pedro Town after two young men reported sustaining gunshot injuries during an altercation involving several persons early Sunday morning.
Police responded to Lion Street at approximately 1:45 a.m. on August 9, where they spoke with 29-year-old mechanic Francisco Daniel Nah.
According to police, Nah reported that he was at a store when two golf carts arrived and their male occupants became involved in a verbal altercation, during which bottles were thrown.
Nah told investigators that one of the men approached him and reached toward his waist, leading him to believe that the man was retrieving a firearm. Fearing for his life, Nah, who police say is licensed to carry a 9mm pistol, fired three warning shots into the ground.
The occupants of the golf carts subsequently left the area.
However, at approximately 1:30 p.m. later that day, 20-year-old Rennel Aguilar and 19-year-old Edwin Barco reported to police that they had sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. Both men were taken for medical treatment.
Police have not indicated whether investigators have established what caused the men’s injuries or whether they were struck by rounds fired from Nah’s licensed weapon.
The investigation continues.
