While the rest of the Semi Professional Football League has spent the offseason trying to close the gap on the champions, La Clery may have done the exact opposite.

Fresh off back-to-back league titles, the reigning champions have emerged from the transfer window looking even stronger, adding a host of players with senior and youth national team experience in what could prove to be one of the most significant recruitment drives ahead of Season 3.

The moves have already sparked discussion among football fans, with many wondering whether any team will be able to prevent La Clery from securing a historic third consecutive championship when the new season kicks off on June 27.

Already regarded as one of the deepest squads in local football, La Clery has strengthened further with the additions of Sebastian Ribot and Baggio Edward from Gros Islet, Leaus Henville from Mabouya Valley, and Dante Fitz, who returns home after playing in Jamaica.

The club has also promoted striker Keenan Joseph as well as promising twin full-backs Mekhi and Ajani Philip from its Under-20 programme, further enhancing both its depth and long-term prospects.

The recruitment drive comes after a season in which La Clery demonstrated both quality and resilience. Despite battling injuries, administrative suspensions and the heartbreaking loss of teammate Ajani “Jimmy” Hippolyte, the club successfully defended its title and remained one of the league’s dominant forces throughout the campaign.

Now, instead of rebuilding, the champions appear to be reinforcing.

The new arrivals join an already formidable core that includes national and youth national players Malik St. Prix, Devone St. Prix, Yanic Noel, Doneal Lionel, Alex Devaux and Justice Germaine, while standout performers such as Uhann “Buju” Degazon and Ronham Cooper remain key figures within the setup.

For rival clubs, the challenge has become even greater.

Vieux Fort South, last season’s finalists, showed they are capable of competing with the league’s elite and will once again be viewed as serious contenders. Newly promoted Anse La Raye and Vieux Fort North will also be eager to make their mark in the Premier League, while several established teams are expected to strengthen before the season begins.

Yet much of the pre-season conversation continues to centre on La Clery and the statement they have made during the transfer window.

The club’s latest acquisitions have not only increased competition for places within the squad but have also strengthened nearly every area of the field, giving Head Coach Zaine Pierre more options than ever before.

For a team that has already set the standard over the past two seasons, that should concern the rest of the league.

The new campaign has not yet begun, but one question is already dominating discussions among supporters across Saint Lucia:

Can anyone stop La Clery? The answer may well define Season 3.
