University of Ibadan Launches Fully Online Postgraduate Programmes, Opens Doors for Diaspora and Working Professionals

Nigeria’s premier university has taken its biggest step yet into digital education. The University of Ibadan (UI), through its Postgraduate College, has announced a suite of fully online postgraduate programmes under a new platform called UI eCampus; a move approved by the University Senate and delivered in partnership with Astria Learning, an international online education provider.

The announcement, made in August 2026, positions UI eCampus as the university’s answer to a persistent problem: demand for postgraduate education in Nigeria far outstrips the number of seats available on campus. For decades, a UI postgraduate degree meant relocating to Ibadan, adjusting work schedules around lecture timetables, and in many cases, choosing between career and further study.

UI eCampus removes that trade-off entirely.

“UI eCampus opens the University of Ibadan’s postgraduate programmes to professionals who cannot put their careers or families on hold to earn a degree,” said Dr. Jeff Bordes, founder and CEO of Astria Learning. “Students learn from the same Ibadan faculty alongside lecturers drawn from leading universities around the world, and graduate with the same Ibadan credential, delivered in a format built around working life.”

A Programme for Every Ambition

UI eCampus currently offers 26 programmes spanning four academic levels. There are three postgraduate diplomas; in Computer Science, Management, and Statistics; designed as nine-month entry points for graduates who need a bridge into postgraduate study or a professional upgrade.

At the master’s level, the university has split its offerings into academic and professional tracks. The academic track includes fourteen programmes, among them M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. Data and Information Science, M.Sc. Psychology (with specialisations in clinical, industrial, developmental, and social psychology), M.Sc. Sociology, M.Sc. Energy Studies, and a Master of Laws. The professional track, built for industry practitioners rather than researchers, includes seven programmes: an MBA with five specialisations, Business Computing, Entrepreneurship Studies, Construction Project Management, Managerial Psychology, Legal Criminology and Security Psychology, and Information Resources Management.

At the doctoral level, UI eCampus offers a Doctor of Business Administration with specialisations ranging from finance to oil and gas to data science, and a Ph.D. in Data and Information Science. Most master’s programmes run 18 months, while doctoral programmes are structured over three years.

Who Can Apply

The programmes are aimed squarely at working professionals; managers, executives, entrepreneurs, government officials, educators, healthcare workers, legal practitioners, and technology specialists; who want to advance their qualifications without stepping away from their careers. Crucially, UI eCampus is also courting the Nigerian diaspora directly, opening its doors to applicants across Africa and around the world who want a UI credential without relocating.

Admission requirements follow the university’s established academic standards. General requirements include five O’Level credits at one sitting (or six across two sittings, English inclusive), a degree from UI or another Senate-recognised university, three letters of recommendation, and a CV. Master’s and postgraduate diploma applicants must also pass a Test of Proficiency in English at a minimum of 40 percent; M.Phil, Ph.D., and DBA applicants are exempt. Beyond these baseline requirements, each programme carries its own specific criteria around degree class and prior subjects; the DBA, for instance, requires an MBA and five years of managerial experience, while the Ph.D. and M.Phil in Data and Information Science require a 1,000-word research concept note.

What Students Get

Every UI eCampus student gets access to a digital learning ecosystem: an interactive learning management system, academic support services, and the Astria Digital Library, which carries journals, ebooks, and research databases. Assessments are conducted through a mix of assignments, projects, presentations, case studies, and secure online examinations, depending on the programme. Flexible tuition payment by instalments is also available.

For a university founded in 1948; the first in Nigeria; the launch of UI eCampus marks a significant recalibration of how it defines access. The classrooms have not moved, but for the first time, students no longer need to.
