Ben Shelton is headed to the third round of the US Open to continue repping the Americans.
However, his first two matches turned into some hard-fought battles, beginning with the Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor, who beat him 1-6 in the first set before storming back to win the final three sets 6-1, 7-6(3), 6-2.
The second round was tough too, going up against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in a closely fought four-set match, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-5.
But before he can take on Denis Shapovalov, he can thank his good luck charm, who’s been cheering the loudest in the stands. His girlfriend, Trinity Rodman.
Rodman went viral for how excited she was after the Hurkacz match, even supporting him in a black crop top that read “I Love My Boyfriend,” along with a tennis racket charm necklace with the letter B.
But Rodman isn’t just Shelton’s girlfriend; she’s a star in her own right. She’s even got the genes to prove it, as the daughter of Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman, although they aren’t close.
“He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else,” she said on Call Her Daddy.
But with her dad’s athleticism, she’s gone on to become an elite soccer player in her own right for the Washington Spirit.
In fact, the only reason she can be a supportive girlfriend is that she played a road game against Bay FC last weekend, and she doesn’t have to head back to the West Coast until this Sunday for a home game against the Portland Thorns.
Her soccer talent was apparent in 2021 when she was the second overall pick in the NWSL draft, and at 18, she was the youngest draftee ever.
She helped the Spirit win the NWSL Championship that year, earning her NWSL Rookie of the Year and U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year honors. Her talent only grew, scoring three goals at the 2024 Paris Olympics and helping the United States’ women’s team win gold.
She wouldn’t meet Shelton until 2025, when she admitted to sliding into his DMs first, and he responded within 10 minutes.
By March, they hard-launched each other on their respective Instagram accounts, with her posting a single shot of them embracing with the caption “dibs.”
