Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has added another major achievement to his illustrious career, with his 2024 album Morayo officially crossing 500 million streams on Spotify.
The 16-track project, released on November 22, 2024, via Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, blends smooth Afrobeats rhythms with R&B influences. It serves as a heartfelt tribute to Wizkid’s late mother, with the title “Morayo” translating from Yoruba to “I see joy.” The album features high-profile collaborations, including Brent Faiyaz on the emotional standout “Piece of My Heart,” Asake on “Bad Girl,” Jazmine Sullivan, Tiakola, and Anaïs Cardot. Standout tracks like the dance-ready “Kese (Dance)” have driven much of its success.
Wizkid marked the occasion with a cryptic Instagram post in Yoruba, roughly translating to a motivational message: “Don’t slack, keep stepping strong, daddy.” The milestone comes as the Starboy reaches a career-high of over 18 million monthly listeners on Spotify and boasts more than 10.7 billion total career streams across the platform.
In another historic feat, Wizkid has become the first African artist to surpass 500 million total streams on Pandora in the United States, further cementing his dominance in global streaming.
Morayo quickly made waves upon release, setting records for first-day streams by an African album on Spotify Nigeria and maintaining strong chart performance. With standout singles already racking up massive individual numbers — “Kese” and “Piece of My Heart” each exceeding 200 million global audio-on-demand streams — the project continues to resonate with listeners worldwide.
The achievement places Morayo in rare company among African albums and highlights Wizkid’s enduring influence more than a decade into his career. Supporters have flooded social media with congratulations, with many hailing it as further proof of his consistency and global appeal.
Buzz is also building around a potential 2026 world tour, which could see the Starboy bring the Morayo sound live to stages across continents.
