The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested ZANU PF legislator Joel Sithole over allegations of misappropriating ZWG1.2 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Sithole, a Chiredzi South MP, reportedly received ZWG1,234,150.00 from Parliament in August 2025 to fund constituency development projects.
These included the construction of a classroom block and the roofing of staff houses at Gwaseche Primary School and Makanani Clinic.
According to ZACC, the legislator allegedly abused his position as chairperson of the CDF committee and a signatory to its bank account to divert the funds for personal use.
He is accused of spending the money on personal expenses, including groceries, alcohol and hotel accommodation.
Investigations so far indicate that Sithole, acting in common purpose with an accomplice identified as Edson Chauke, who is still at large, allegedly transferred ZWG850,000 from the CDF account to a local wholesaler for the purchase of groceries.
He spent an additional ZWG418,516.00 at hotels and beer outlets.
In an attempt to conceal the alleged misuse of funds, Sithole is said to have purchased 100 bags of cement and a limited quantity of roofing sheets for a different school, creating the impression that the intended development projects were underway.
He is expected to appear before the Masvingo Magistrates Court on Thursday.
