The Zimbabwe national cricket team has booked its place in the Super 8 of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, marking a major milestone in the team’s impressive campaign.

The Chevrons join Sri Lanka as the two sides to progress from Group B to the next round of the tournament.

Zimbabwe officially secured qualification on Tuesday after their group match against the Ireland national cricket team was abandoned due to heavy rain. Both teams were awarded one point.

The point proved decisive, taking Zimbabwe’s tally to five points, just one behind group leaders Sri Lanka, whom they will face in their final group match on Thursday.

Qualification for the Super 8 also guarantees Zimbabwe automatic qualification for the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Zimbabwe now joins cricket heavyweights including India, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, England, and Sri Lanka in the Super 8 stage, with only one remaining qualification spot yet to be decided from Group A.

In the Super 8 phase, Zimbabwe will begin their campaign against the West Indies on February 23, before facing India on February 26. They will conclude their Super 8 fixtures against South Africa on March 1.

The Chevrons’ progression highlights their strong performances in the group stage, where they remained unbeaten and emerged as one of the tournament’s standout teams.
