25-year-old arrested in connection with Upington shooting

A 25-year-old male has been arrested in Upington in the Northern Cape, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old man in the Paballelo area.
The suspect was apprehended following a police investigation into the incident that occurred on Sunday night and sparked protests in the area.
On Monday, community members organised a march to protest the rising levels of crime in the area, saying they would not stand by and allow Paballelo to become a crime hotspot.
Police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says police, acting on a tip-off, apprehended the suspect on Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect has been charged with murder and will be appearing in court soon
“The police were summoned to a scene at the corner of Brown and Imali Street at approximately 21:40, where the deceased was reportedly found with several gunshot wounds. The investigation continues.” She said.
