By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 74-year-old Belize City man has been sentenced to three months in prison after being convicted of possessing a crack pipe less than 24 hours after receiving a fine for the same offence.
Alden Randolph Banks appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to possession of a pipe made or adapted for smoking a controlled drug.
Banks had appeared in court the previous day and was fined $150, plus $5 in court costs, after pleading guilty to another crack pipe charge. He was given time to pay the fine or serve one week in prison in default.
Police said the first recent arrest occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday while officers were conducting a foot patrol through Taylor’s Alley. A search reportedly led to the discovery of a two-inch pipe adapted for smoking a controlled drug.
Banks was reportedly found with another crack pipe in the same area within a day of his first court appearance.
The latest case marked Banks’ fifth conviction for possession of a crack pipe, prompting the court to impose a three-month custodial sentence.
